  Giraffe Shape Filament :-) After taking some white light images of the Sun I turned my attention to viewing the solar surface with my (Ha) solar telescope and to my surprise there was a huge giraffe shape filament on the south eastern solar limb Can you see it! Images were taken with 60mm Lunt solar telescope and Canon 700D camera with 2x Barlow lens attached. 25 images were captured with an exposure of 1/320th second and ISO200, images then stacked in RegiStx6 and processed in PS.

  At last today the sky cleared long enough so I could take some images of this magnificent complex sunspot group AR 3615, it is indeed a very interesting area to observe in white light with its many dark active sunspots. Images were taken with a Skywatcher 80mm refractor telescope with a glass solar filter attached and a Canon 700D camera with a 2x Barlow lens. 25 images were stacked in RegiStax6 and processed in PS…. exposure time 1/640th second & ISO100.  Yay…At last we had a bit of clear sky late this afternoon, so I ran outside to take some pictures of the Sun and what did I see but a huge prominence erupting from western limb…Wow! Images were taken with 60mm Lunt solar telescope and Canon 700D camera with a 2x Barlow lens attached. Two sets of images were captured one set for the solar surface and one set for the faint prominences, images then stacked in RegiStax6 and combined in PS. White light image taken with 80mm refractor and Canon 70D camera. ~ Emerging sunspot AR 3614 on eastern limb of Sun 18th March 2024 ~  Sunspots AR3599 & AR3600 The wind was blowing over 30 knots today making it impossible to take pictures of the Sun with a telescope. So I just quickly took some pictures with my camera and lens fitted with a glass solar filter on a camera tripod, the high bush acted as a bit of a windbreak! Images taken with a Canon 70D camera and 100-400mm lens with a 2x teleconverter attached making a focal length of 1280mm. There were 15 images captured with exposure time of 1/500th and ISO200, images stacked in RegiStax6 and processed in PS. This is the same solar set-up that I’ll be taking to the Total Eclipse of the Sun on the 8th April 2024, we are travelling to the US to board a cruise ship and witnessing the event off the Mexican Coast near Mazatlan, more on that exciting trip soon :-) Using the movie live view feature helps you focus on the sunspot and position the Sun in the middle of the frame. For very quick shots of the Sun a camera tripod is perfect to use if your in a hurry, like I was today because of the weather.
   ~ Venus & Waning Crescent Moon in a moody pink twilight sky ~ At 5.20am on the 9th March 2024 I woke up at 5am and looked out my window and saw this beautiful view of brilliant Venus close to a waning crescent Moon in a pretty pink twilight sky. I quickly ran out of the bedroom, grabbed my camera and tripod to capture some images before the clouds came rolling in…. to my delight I managed to get some photo’s :-) Images were taken with a Canon 70D camera and a Tamron 28-400mm lens on a tripod; the screen shot was from Stellarium Mobile planetary App…this is an excellent App and it's FREE! |
